About USDA loans
What this checks: Whether the property location falls within a USDA-designated rural area for Single Family Housing (SFH) and Multi-Family Housing (MFH) guaranteed loan programs. Eligible areas are generally communities under 35,000 people that are not part of a major metro area.
Location is one requirement: USDA loans also have income limits, credit requirements, and other criteria. An eligible location does not mean automatic loan approval — a USDA-approved lender determines that.
Boundary updates: USDA reviews and updates rural designations periodically based on Census data. Areas near growing metros can change status over time.
