Overview

GeoWorkbench (geoworkbench.app) is a free collection of online GIS and mapping tools built on public data from sources including USGS, FEMA, and the US Census Bureau. This policy explains what data is collected when you use the site, how it is used, and what choices you have.

The short version: GeoWorkbench itself does not collect personal information, require an account, or track individual users. However, third-party services used by this site — including advertising networks and mapping data providers — may collect certain information as described below.

Information GeoWorkbench collects

GeoWorkbench does not collect, store, or sell personal information. No account is required to use any tool on this site, and no registration information is requested or retained.

Addresses, coordinates, or other location inputs you enter into any tool are sent directly to the relevant data provider (such as USGS, FEMA, or the US Census Bureau) to retrieve results. GeoWorkbench does not log, store, or have access to these queries after they are processed.

Cookies

GeoWorkbench does not set first-party cookies for tracking or analytics purposes. However, third-party services embedded on this site — including advertising networks — may place cookies on your browser. These cookies are set and controlled by those third parties, not by GeoWorkbench.

Advertising

GeoWorkbench uses third-party advertising networks, which may include Google AdSense, to display ads on this site. These networks use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other sites across the web.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out through the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.

GeoWorkbench does not control the data collected by advertising networks and is not responsible for their privacy practices. For more information on how Google collects and uses data, see Google's Privacy Policy.

Third-party data services

Each tool on GeoWorkbench queries one or more external data APIs to return results. These include USGS, FEMA, the US Census Bureau, OpenStreetMap/Nominatim, CartoDB, and Esri. Queries sent to these services may include the coordinates or address you entered, along with standard technical information such as your IP address, which is transmitted as part of any web request. GeoWorkbench does not control how these providers handle request data. Links to their privacy policies are below.

Map tile providers

Base map tiles are served by CartoDB and Esri. When your browser loads a map, tile requests are sent to these providers, which may log standard server data including IP addresses. These logs are maintained by the respective providers under their own privacy policies.

Children's privacy

GeoWorkbench is not directed at children under 13. No information is knowingly collected from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated periodically. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
